I'm going to take the time to respond to SymbolCymbal's comment for you so you don't have to.

Paragraph 1: Basically all you said is that if you have a fan base you get better reviews. Quality > Quantity. I believe (though I may be wrong) that the generic series was more a dig at producers in general and not just the AP. Don't flatter yourself.

Paragraph 2: As already stated like 700 times or something, Steven wants some professional and precise constructive criticism that "OMG UR SO GUD LUL XD XD XD" just doesn't deliver. It's pretty clear that he doesn't really give a flying fuck about the score if the reviews he gets are actually the slightest bit helpful

Paragraph 3: I skimmed through this because it was pointless rambling.

Paragraph 4: OH WOW SOME GUY MADE 50 SONGS IN A YEAR AND SHIT BLAH BLAH fuck dude how hard is it to just read stuff and not throw out completely irrelevant shit into the discussion. Clearly Steven DOESN'T want a following, he DOESN'T want high scores and he probably doesn't give a shit about some guy who makes music for fun and has some butt buddies on newgrounds who lack discerning taste.

If you're happy to have the feedback on their tunes consist of "OMG U RULE ILY <3 :3 ^____________^" then that's fantastic for them. If you ever open your fucking eyes and realise there's more to it than pleasing an easy crowd like NG you'll want precise and professional criticism and you'll rarely find it here.

(Okay yeah I still upload stuff here but never anything I would ever consider for commercial release.)

[/long winded rant at 2 in the morning]

to midi machine
how in the hell was that a response to what i said?
read it over fully.. then respond

It's a response in to what you said....BECAUSE YOU MISSED STEVEN'S POINT

Steven's point.. yes i can read.. i can also read all of his BBS posts and all of his news posts and responses as well...All of them sum up to make YOUR POINT, that you so adamantly say that i am missing....... are you saying I am illiterate or just stupid?
I don't have rants after skimming through things... i was was being a prick cause i felt like throwing in a summed up response to everything in a prickish way.
The point should never be just classified in one post. i used to follow Zellers because of his musical aptitude and interest. Never a fan but always interested in the evolving of any electronic musician... It just pisses me off to see someone trying to get big on the internet and shunning a site that has given them a community. And yes i know his point, but after reading so many posts on separate forums in the BBS.. Some things a person says will just kinda piss you off over time.. Am i really THAT WRONG? First of all you don't GET BIG on the internet. All musicians know you either sell your tracks or play them live to make money and status. Steve noticed the flaws in a humble way but also drove a stake into the whole reason for this site. Its sort of like ..... well.. he just DOESN'T GET IT. The whole -this isnt good enough for me- attitude really angers me when it comes from a thief. As i stated before, It seems his "generic" music is more like a passive aggressive insult to the community. I am entitled to my opinion.I wont deny this site is filled with single celled organisms, But never ever tell me i missed the POINT. The point is the reason why i left such a long response. If you would like to flame me out in the open than i would just like to invite you to suck my pussy bitches.

Sorry for the flame war on your posts steve.

by the way heres steves point that you have stuck in your mind if you had missed it previously

Well, a serious answer:
I don't mean to offend anybody, or the overall community here, but this is just 100% my honest opinion...
I'm not complaining when I say this either, as it really is beyond anyone's control, but lets face facts. The Audio Portal is so out of balance. There are sooo many crap submissions that make best of all time, most of which were made by an artist who I would barely consider to use the term "artist". They have no concept of music thoery, although theory behind something is not all that important in comparison some other things. If not that, then the artist is lacking emotion in their song, or even technical aspects such as mixing, which often takes years to get good at.
Now I am just generalizing here, but it seriously makes me ANGRY every single time that a decent song has a score of less than 3.00, and is essentialy burried by two votes of 0, and never surfaces again. One of the causes of this is that there simply is not enough people voting on the AP. And most of the people who do vote are artists themselves, not casual listeners, which means many are jealous and just mindlessly vote 0.
The flash portal draws in the attention of many people who have never seen the development environment of flash before, and thus results in fair(er) voting amoung the masses.
Aside from the unfair voting system, I used to submit my music here so that I could learn, in order to make myself better. I've gotten like... maybe one useful review after countless hours of work, and several songs. I just don't see the point of the audio portal on the artists side, other than attention, if you happen to make it big on NG. I'm not learning anything.
So yeah... I'm going to stick with actual "audio" communities I think. The Audio Portal is a great idea from the flash authors point of view, and I see it like that, but I'm not getting anywhere as a music artist here.

I am not shunning this website at all. I'm saying that I'm not getting reviews, so what is the point of uploading my music? I still take part in teh community aspects of this website, as I always have.

It makes ME angry that you are upset with a personal opinion that I post on my own blog. I have every right to exercise my own opinion. Stop fighting about it. I don't see you getting angry at Karco, and he did the same thing as I did essentially except in similar words. Basically all he said is that he's not uploading anymore because he's not getting any good reviews... and he's an AUDIO MOD!

Yes, you DID miss the point. You keep bringing up popularity and scores and getting big and fanbases and all sorts of irrelevant shit when ****ALL this post is about is the QUALITY of the REVIEWS in the AP****. Oh and then you say "fuck scores, it's about reviews" as if you're making a new point. Doesn't that seem just a little bit dumb to you?

As long as you're playing the victim here let me clarify something: missing the point and firing off a badly typed, long winded demonstration of circular logic doesn't make you illiterate, it DOES make you look the dunce, though. And sure, you can have your fucking opinion as long as you bear in mind that it's *completely* irrelevant to the original discussion.

I know what you mean lol. The score does matter obviously, but that's not the main reason why I'm upset. It's always nice to have recognition for something you've put a lot of time in, and a higher score often means more listens. The more people who listen, the more reviews you're going to get, some of which may be helpful in one way or another.

Okay, I say it's only about reviews but I lie. Obviously competitive zero bombing and people having no idea what the fuck they're doing when it comes to production and general music theory grinds everyone's gears.

I think I can safely say though that if there were more people giving well thought reviews with precise and professionally minded criticism and more people who could understand such reviews then that alone would make the AP a much better place for producer's like Steven despite all it's other shortcomings.

"are you saying I am illiterate or just stupid?"

I wasn't meaning to imply either, or trying to instigate anything remotely close to a flame war- but I'm kinda glad that you took my sentence that way, it was quite cute to see you rage :D

pew pew FIREN MAH LAZORS

"And that's where www.bigsounds.tk comes in."

Everyone moved away :(:(

I know :(

I like your signature.

i like you.

I didn't read all the posts here.
But I agree with you.

However.
The portal IS getting more exposure. Sadly, it seems like all the shit songs seem to represent the portal. Depending on when people come here.
And recently, there have been "stolen" songs making the list as well.

I think one good cure, would be to go back to the old way of voting. 1 per person, per song, signed in. Ever. Sure there are ways around that too, but a bit more complex. That helps, as for the most part, people are lazy.

Right now, any person browsing the portal, not even signed in...can drop a 5.00 submission with 3 or 4 votes, to a score that can bury the song on page 3 or 4 of its genre.

Going back to the one vote thing, would stop at least the "hate" 0 voting.

I don't put serious stuff here, anymore. Unless its a collab or contest entry. Sometimes some fun things. But yeah.

Yeah, every single place is just more exposure. But I'm not just interested in that. I really want to be focused more on the learning side of things for now.

it would be easy to stop the zero bombers, just make it if you almost alwas vote 0, then your zero vote isnt worth anything, it should work with 5s to

That would ruin the entire level and BP system they have right now then.

not realy, it would just find the zero bombers and make their zeros count less, it allows those who score fairly to get more power

Then people would do that, they would vote 5 on their own submissions, and 0 on others, so.... that way they wouldn't be always voting 0 or always voting 5.

dont zero bombers zero tons tho, and they can only 5 a few of theirs, i think its at least a step in the right direction

Maybe, I don't know. I have no clue when it comes to developing a voting system.

china rules day made every one freak out.
it was mayhem.
i loved it!

I honestly didn't really care for the mahem at all.

I think you should have to review to vote. thats just my opinion.

Maybe. But then you get very little votes. Even some of the biggest songs out there with over 100,000 listens only have 1000 reviews. Which means only 1% of the listeners would be voting. If you scale this ratio down to a more realistic amount of listens for a song, lets say 5000, you would only have approx. 50 votes.

In my room I sit and stare
At my feet my underwear
I couldn't believe the size of the load
As I sit hear and stare at my chode

What a lovely poem. Did you write it yourself?
