And aside from your review, I never got anything useful really. I'm going to start trying to leave one good solid lengthy review here per day. That doesn' mean I'm going to get a good review back though.
I agree, the AP could be much better, but now its flooded with tons of crap. Sad part is, more and more people are moving on to crappy musical genres, and only very few are left to keep alive the truly good music. I've seen the classical music section taking 0-bombings, or very good songs getting killed by a low rating from techno-junkies who complained it didn't sound techy enough... Sometimes it just makes me want to scream "It's the bloody CLASSICAL section, why in God's name did you think you'll find techno music here?" because of the colossal stupidity of some persons and their inability to distinguish different musical genres. Not to mention that apart from the classical section, some of the subgenres in the Electronic section and some of the Metal&Rock section, the rest are just mass-produced, ear-numbing abominations. I'm not even going to say anything about the Rap/R&B/Hiphop section, it makes my head hurt just from thinking about it. I spend alot of time on the classical section and the rock one, but occasionally I roam around on all the sections, looking for something good, and I rarely find a track that has an appealing rhythm. Most of them seem to follow the same path - quantity over quality. I click on a title link, I listen to the song and at the end I'm thinking "Ahem...what?", because there isn't any message or feeling in the song, there's just white noise and the same generic, mindless string of notes repeating themselves over and over again. I am a metalhead (I listen almost exclusively to metal and rock) and a rather pretentious person when it comes to music, but still, there are songs that I like, even in the techno class,and I usually hate techno. Take for example Mr. Petera's "The Launch" or Danman87's songs, or NemesisTheory's songs, Bloodfest's "Fooling Around Blues"... THAT'S quality stuff. Guys know how to come up with a good song that has an interesting rhythm and a good instruments combo; they know how to put emotion into their music, and you can feel it, you can easily understand the message that the song expresses. So I kinda feel for you. Seems like we're the few left to keep alive the good stuff on the AP. I don't understand why there isn't anyone from the NG staff caring about the AP, because if anyone at all was actually guarding it, then good songs wouldn't get crippled because of immature 12-year olds who throw out low scores without even explaining why - not that they're actually capable of giving a proper explanation.
Anyways, I'll retret offf the internet for now and go listen some music and think about how wonderfully generic this day was. Cheers.
I love your way of thinking. I'm not even kidding. I just had a huge debate about the importance of genre's with someone on the Audio Forum. Awhile ago, I was actually poking fun at the Audio Portal, and started making shitty songs and naming them "Generic Dance Song 1, Generic Dance Song 2" etc lol.
As for the NG staff caring about the AP, I've been promised the overhaul of the site is coming soon. But that was half a year ago. Mindchamber said he's going to bring a current issue up to Tom for me. (The rev system drawing more 0 bombing for the attention war).

The biggest problem IMO, is allowing the same stalker/hater to vote zero on the same song, every fucking day. Or some 5 crew to 5 the same shit, everyday.
1 vote per I.P. plx. Sure, changing I.P's isn't all that difficult. But its more work that just clicking a button. :D That will weed out a lot.
I liked the old voting version just fine, however...when someone uploads, they give themselves a 5...and usually shit on the top 5 of the genre, with a big fat 0.
Also, people should need to have accounts to vote as well. Sure, there would be less votes on a song, but they would be more evened out. I think.
To follow suit, a user should be prompted to review once they click the zero, and explain why. If they choose not to review...score isn't changed and they don't get to vote zero.

The scores on Audio submissions are sooo arbitrary... I remember when we used to have ranks like "Audio Track", "Gold Track", "Platinum Track" and such, which were defined by how many downloads a track had.
I'm sure it would be a much better place if you could simply sort by downloads instead of score. In the meantime, I mainly just check out artists that I KNOW are good, i.e. Helix6, Waterflame, maybe API... These are people who put effort into their music and don't just bash out some useless loop with no melody.
I'd like to see this "rehaul" they're talking about, but I don't know much about it, and what good it will do. =/
I remember that too. When I first joined NG, they had that system. But that was like 2 and a half years ago. It was much better imo.
Too bad API isn't here anymore though :(
