OMFG ITS ZELLERS.

OMFG I KNOW. WHO CARES?

hey i just had an idea, why not limit the amount of songs people can submit, so there are more people listening to each song, it would also eliminate alot of the crap on the AP

Because the more songs the better... as viewed from the flash artists perspective. If a flash artist has more songs to choose from, then of course the purpose of the Audio Portal is clear.

The Audio Portal was created ONLY for the purpose of letting flash artists have music to use in their submissions. But it's grown a bit since then...

Meh.

a-heM.

Why?

Just because. Jeez. read aboveee

ok, so dont limit total songs, but do limit songs that go on the audio portal front page, i hate trying to find good music, and if artists had to upload fewer songs they would only put up their good songs

What do you mean by limit the amount that go on the AP front page? There's a 30 best of all time, and 5 best of the week. That's only 35...

But the problem is, many people on Tuesday nights (when it updates) get hit really hard. A submission deserving of a top 30 spot will often be knocked out as people deliberately vote 0 on other submissions so that theirs has a chance. The AP is horrible for this. In fact, on Tuesday nights, on RadioGrounds.com they actually have a weekly broadcast called "The 0 bomb broadcast" lol..

But yeah, it's bad...

Pretty much right about everything you said in response to mindchamber.

I learned and still learn from other communities since comments like "omg u r so gud lol XD XD XD" don't teach you very much at all. Hardly anyone is actually savvy about production so when I say stuff like "HEY YOU roll off the master EQ at 35Hz and set the ratio of the compressor to 5:1" they're all like "lolwut".

I'm sticking around solely because I'm just starting to meet and collaborate with people who know what they're doing. And also for discussions like this which are always fun to have.

Oh and by the way, you have a really good tutorial voice! I definitely think you should do more in-depth FL tutorials :)

Yeah, exactly like you say... Some people just don't get it. I know I sound a little selfish, or even elitist, but it is the truth. And that's why I'm probably not going to be uploading any of my music here for awhile... Until it's matured a bit. But I mean, it's been what... 6...7 years already, and it's definitely grown, but it's still not ready to be considered a community that you can learn from, although yes... the people here are great. I've done a few collabs with some people here.

And I probably will make more FL tuts. I haven't started the second one yet lol. I'm not sure what I should do it on. I guess it won't take as long as the first, becasue I have all the styling done.... I want to make the second one longer though. And more in-depth.

i was talking about the new submissions part, i tryed to find good music there, but couldnt find much

Yeah. I know. Because about 14 of 15 submissions aren't that great.

fuck

cool story bro.

The further truth is that any large-scale site that has open registration system will have its fair share of idiots. You're not just going to see it on NG, you'll see it on youtube, myspace, livejournal, everywhere. There's going to be unfair voting and shitty reviews, everywhere. So it's unfair of you to solely attack NG for such generalized reasons, but if this site hasn't helped you in one way or another then fine. I sure as hell as know I haven't got any anonymous comments on my myspace or soundclick, or any type of advice for that matter. Of course I would recommend a smaller forum to go to that focuses on more specific topics of music if you're serious about what you to do, because you simply won't get that far with NG as your main learning source. Still the NGAP is better than the majority of large scale sites regarding music production.

You hang around the forums, I think you know well enough that there's enough knowledge going around to help even the greatest here improve in one aspect or another. Finding solace in a smaller group of intelligent can be enough.

also is your name based of the canadian retailing store?

Well I understand what you're saying, of course every site is going to have idiots. But there are many audio forums on different sites that are just as big, if not bigger than Newgrounds AP. A prime example is KVRAudio.com. I've learnt more there than any other website. It's not how many idiots (lack of a better word, inexperienced people) are there. It's how many seasoned producers who know what they're doing and able to help and give you legitimate reviews.

I'm not bashing Newgrounds at all! I already said I love this place, the community and most the people it consists of. I'm literally just saying that the ratio of experienced to unexperienced people is rather low here. The reasoning for this is that Newgrounds' prime target audience is in fact teenagers... Not people who have been in the business for several years. Newgrounds just isn't the proper platform to host a SERIOUS audio community. At least, not serious enough for me.

I really appreciate your explanation of your interpretation of Newgrounds, but people are entitled to their own opinions. Peopel such as myself.

And yes, my previous artist name was based off of Zellers, which is owned by the Hudson's Bay Co. But now, I'm going with my given name.

calling the AP a joke = bashing the website?

Newgrounds site rank is 595. KVRaudio is 15,357. That's not exactly what I had in mind when I said "large scale website" :P . Like I said, everyone should join a smaller community that is more focused on specific music interests. You're completely right...I disregarded the fact that this site simply doesnt focus on music pros. And that the audience is mainly teenagers. Point taken.

Newgrounds Audio Portal is 595... or Newgrounds.com is 595....? Because I can gaurantee you that about 1/6 of the website is audio, the rest is flash.

But yeah, I guess that by calling it a joke, it is a bit harsh. It's not a joke, it's just NOT suited to my needs... *edits original blog post*

Sometimes I would confuse you and Podburrys. It's that darned letter P.

what?

Ah well, the facts are right there in your face. It's the choice whether you can live with it or not that really matters. I'm solely submitting to get some critique, though that barely ever happens. One thing I learned though is that not caring about scores will make your NG life much better.

What 'smaller, more focussed' audio site/forum were you thinking of? Those sites are most likely better for improving your production skills, but I say the NG audio forum beats all in terms of community and helping eachother.

I know I should care about scores, but when it's you realize that your scores aren't the only ones that matter, it DOES in fact make sense that you should be caring about scores without being selfish. I think the NG forum is nice, as said multiple times, but I'm not too sure about helping people. Lot's of people will just post something useless and say "yeah sorry, I don't really know".

I'm thinking of kvrAudio.com, although it definitely is not small. It's bigger than the Newgrounds Audio community.

We need a new site. A new voting system. And A new community.

I think that Tom Flup and the rest of the team have done a great job on this site. But this is not the most seioues site in the world, and for the poeple who are serious they need a place.

And that's where www.bigsounds.tk comes in.

make the ap adjust to you

Or... I could just find a place that works for me better than NG.

whats AP and why isnt Newgrounds suitable for u?

AP = Audio Portal.

And it just isn't. Read the long response above to Mindchambers comment if you really want to know.

so why dont you make something to blow everyone away?
why dont you make something that gets recognized? if you pull away from the spam and crap
(like Audex, nal1200, DJ nate, MaestroRage, or any "mid level" artist)
if you make something somewhat good, you will gain attention and other good artist and attentive audio listeners. if you try hard enough you will get good reviews and great scores.
if the said artists could do it then you can too ya?

im not telling you to not upload to another site, just if you are good why not share it with newgrounds? the handful of good audio reviewers we have will find you and give you the attention you crave.

But the thing is.... there are BARELY ANY good reviews. And by good, I mean something that I can learn from. It's not the fact that I feel I'm not recognized enough, but I feel like I'm not getting anywhere... even if I did become as well known as the said artists, what then? Woohoo. well known on Newgrounds.. I'm still not anywhere.

But the fact is... when you have people fighting with you over whether or not dimrain47 ( http://dimrain47.newgrounds.com ) should even bother releasing an album... you know the community here really just doesn't understand.

Like I said, it's not the attention I'm looking for, it's learning.

But KVRaudio doesn't have a system to upload your audio to (does it?) hence not fitting my interpration of a large scale site. Semantics aside, doesnt matter, you can still post on the forums over there for critique. (Although seemingly intimidating to post if youre a novice-intermediate though :|) In order to critique, you're obviously going to have to upload your music to the net, to mediafire, yousendit, megaupload or whatever but it doesnt give room for anonymous feedback and exposure. sites like this, myspace, soundclick, purevolume, do. You have a greater chance of getting buried under the latter sites than here. So really, what's the problem here again O_o ? Is it that you're trying to punish the site for having an unproportionate number of noobs or disagreeing with the voting system perhaps?

There's people perfectly capable of giving solid advice here, but it IS hardly done like you mentioned, or the people who are intelligent enough to give helpful critique simply don't put in the effort to do so in there....it just takes a good chunk of personal time.

maybe i used bad english.
i understand what you are saying, you DO want attention.
you want the attention of people that can help you and push you to do better.
something like that. i understand you

and you are right. there are few who can do this.
before this account my first one (spammed then hacked) i had MANY reviews.
i think i was level 14 and i had over 400 reviews. 120 were audio reviews.
i was told i wrote some good ones but thats only me. u_u
you are right there are few good reviewers in the audio section, i just hope you post here as well as (whatever other site) because maybe your music will reach a greater audience even if the input isnt as good.

Both Audio and flash portal are corrupt.

The system is sound on paper but in reality is can be overturned either accidentally or purposefully. Examples of this are groups making horrible visual or lyrical clips and getting their friends to vote on them. This can be done vice versa for enemies. Or people just troll and dishonestly vote to make a mess.

Youtube have a similar problem with the video rating system and comment voting. People who gather groups or a large number of alts for bias voting. These people are normally called 'votebots'

If someone hears or see's something they like, they'll advertise it in more ways than one. This will encourage people to vote more positively regardless of the quality.

But Newgrounds is now becoming filled with....'those' people. People who have no taste or intelligence and widely vote on anything. This is why so much shit has not only managed to get in but make high scores.

This is why I stopped voting long ago.

hey steven, it looks like MY game is going to be out soon, what about YOURS :P
